Scholarships

The mission of the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation is to support research, education, and training within the hospitality industry by bestowing scholarships and grants to those seeking careers or advancement in the hospitality industry; funding education programs that promote the hospitality industry; and awarding research grants to those interested in blending academia with practical industry know-how.

Educational Scholarships

The Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation offers post-secondary education scholarships, each spring and fall, for students seeking a career in the hospitality industry, as well as to incumbents seeking credentials for advancement, on a competitive basis. The foundation endeavors to identify and reward the best and brightest of the hospitality industry’s next generation of leaders.

They provide tuition for up to $2,000 per person enrolled in hospitality-related courses, whether delivered in class or online, at any post-secondary, accredited institution within the United States. You must be at least 18 years of age and in possession of a high school diploma or GED.  

Majors or courses include:

  • Hotel Operations and Management

  • Destination Management

  • Meeting and Conference Planning

  • Wedding and Special Event Planning

  • Exhibition and Convention Planning

  • Meeting and Event Catering

  • Foodservice Management

  • Hotel Concierge

  • Hospitality Human Resources

  • and much more

Certification Scholarships

The Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation (TSYLF) appreciates the importance of continuing professional education and advancement through certification. Hospitality certifications increase the value of professionals to their employers, show proof of a comprehensive body of knowledge, and promote industry standards, practices, and ethics.

  • This is not a reimbursement program. We pay your exam fees up to $750!

  • Scholarships are for first-time testing only. TSYLF does not pay application fees, retesting, or recertification fees.

  • The exam certification must be offered by a professional, nonprofit, hospitality-related association that GuideStar.org or other reputable sources can validate.

  • You must be 21 years of age & currently or previously employed in the hospitality industry.

  • Certification scholarship recipients must reside in the United States.
